Céad Mille Fáilte - A Hundred Thousand Welcomes. With this saying you are greeted everywhere in Ireland.
On this and following pages you may find the travelogue of our vacation in July 2005 to Ireland.
In her youth, Hilleke had lived for two times two years in Ireland with her parents and that was the reason for this vacation. She wanted to
show us where she used to live and where she went to school.
On the way to Ireland we stayed one night in England, in Wales, before we took the ferry from Holyhead to Dun Laoghaire (pronunciation: Dun Leary)
in Ireland. First we stayed for four nights in a B&B in Shankill, south of Dublin. This is in the area where Hilleke used to live.
After four days we went to Boyle where we had rented a cottage for a week. In that week we visited the surroundings of Boyle: Sligo, Connemara, Yeats
Country, etc. After that week we went up further north, where we had rented a cottage in Kilmacrennan. From there we explored county Donegal. Amongst others
we saw the Atlantic coast, Inishowen peninsula and Glenveagh National Park. The last week we spent in a large house in Northern-Ireland, in Randalstown and
there we visited Belfast and Rathlin Island with its puffins and seals. After this week we crossed the sea to England and we stayed for another two nights in
the neighbourhood of Cambridge to see this city as well before crossing the North Sea back home.
